Sickness survival Kit

The first trimester of pregnancy, whilst incredibly exciting, can also feel miserable with constant nausea and even sickness. This is often made worse by the fact that you don’t want to tell people you are pregnant at this stage – and trying to hide it isn’t easy when you feel like you are about to throw up at any moment!

Homemade sickness survival kit

One of our bloggers, Amelia, found that keeping a ‘Sickness survival kit’ in her bag at all times really helped. She explains: “In the early weeks I confided in my mum and told her that I was struggling as I felt constantly sick. She presented me with this homemade kit – just a makeup bag filled with sherbet lemons (sour things are supposed to help with sickness and these really did!), dried apricots, a minty mouth spray and some individually wrapped biscuits. The kit proved an absolute godsend. In the early weeks I kept it topped up and in my handbag wherever I went – as soon as I felt a wave of nausea I could quickly pop something into my mouth and generally the feeling of sickness would pass quite quickly.

Suggestions for your own sickness survival kit include: sour sweets (such as sherbet lemons, sour drops, fizz balls, refreshers), mints or a minty mouth spray, individually wrapped crackers or biscuits (so they will stay fresh in your bag), dried fruit such as crystallised ginger (apricots are also good as they are quite tart), cereal bars.
